Normal hearing protection seals off the ear with an insulating material (like foam, or silicone), thus blocking sound from entering the ear. Ears are protected, but a few problems can come as a result. People have to shout at each other in order to cary on a conversation, and workers can sometimes be unable to hear warning noises (like shouts or alarms). Other problems come about from having the ear completly sealed off, leaving a stuffy, plugged up feeling. The Noise Braker® was created to help with these problems.

The Noise Braker® is a filter. As such, it lets air and sound through. The Noise Braker® is designed to reduce the intensity of sound waves, as the sound waves get stronger. This way the wearer can cary on a normal conversation. The normal voice can be heard with slight reduction of volume, while the machine in the background is filtered out to a greater extent.


The Accelerated Resonant Decay Principle

It is an axiom of physics that we cannot create or destroy energy. We can however, convert it. The Hocks Noise Braker Filter® converts sonic energy into thermal energy by means of compression acceleration. The rise in temperature is so minute you will never notice it. You can still hear but a dangerous level of sound can not possibly get through the filter.

The following test data was made by two different companies on our Standard Noise Braker® plug. The tests measured noise attenuation (reduction) at different frequencies. (It is similar to seeing how much noise reduction took place while you played C at different spots on a piano.) Our proprietary "Hocks Noise Braker® filter" is used in other products and while attenuation data should be similar, the test data on this site is for Hocks Noise Braker® units only.
